The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
