Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior official stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
